General notion about spinal osteochondrosis

Osteochondrosis affects all the spinal tissues. But intervertebral discs are more vulnerable place; and many researchers, doctors and patients pay their attention to it. This is connected with the fact, that discs are exactly peculiar to a big functional dynamics in the spine. They fulfill amortized function, having resisted to mechanical loads. That is why there is an active metabolism in them. Osteochondrosis is a pathological process, at the heart of which there is metabolism violation in the spine, and especially in the intervertebral discs. In this connection, such terms as dystrophic and degenerate (process, phenomenon) are applied in relation to the osteochondrosis in the medical literature. Arrival and adequate nutrients perception in the intervertebral disc is reduced at the osteochondrosis. Deficiency of water, amino acids and trace elements appear. Water deficiency is influenced on the amortized (elastic) disc function. A condition of the pulposis core and fibrous discs ring changes.

This is more often a back area, place of location of the spinal canal, including spinal cord and spinal nerves, or back-lateral area, intervertebral foramen, including spinal roots (radiculus). Besides intervertebral discs, hyaline cartilages (plates) located on a surface of vertebral bodies, also suffer at the osteochondrosis. They exactly join to discs. There are violations in the area of small spinal joints. Bone formations vertebras also change. Osteoplastic process is reformed in them. As organism tries to resist to pathology (it is named as sanogenesis), additional increases of a bone tissue along the edges of the vertebral bodies adoptively form. This is popular salt deposits. With time such deposits really may slightly limit mobility of the spinal segment. But they save organism, having formed additional places for the spinal strengthening.

Osteochondrosis development peculiarites

All the structural spinal elements are connected to each other and with a whole organism. The more authoritative native specialist-vertebrologist, Y.Y. Popelyansky, came to this fundamental knowledge. Having told respectful words in the address of morphologists, having investigated spinal tissues, modified by the osteochondrosis, together with it, he writes in his manual on vertebral neurology: A reader may be convinced, that a pulposis complex (of a disc, notes of A.V.) of a grown-up man this is a complicated functioning organ; that it needs in direct and back connections with the neighboring segments (of a spine, notes of A.V.) and with a whole organism; that osteochondrosis in a modern comprehension is not a degeneration orepiphysis necrosisof the ossification centers. It means, that osteochondrosis development goes according to the definite ways interconnections and interrelations in the spine and in the organism, and the local degenerative changes are not at all the essence of this process. They are only sequent of the general systematic changes.

Up to the present moment inner-system spinal interrelations had been studied empirically, and only partially allowed to be oriented in their surprisingly harmonious system.

During the changes taken place in the inner organs, pathogenic impulses arrive to the spinal sites, functionally connected with them, having promoting to changes in the metabolism in the appropriate intervertebral discs. The pathologic process is more expressed exactly there. Osteochondrosis manifestations

This pathology is usually revealed in a pain, numbness and crunch during movement. Osteochondrosis manifestations depend on condition of intervertebral joints, discs. At the beginning it may be fatigue, heaviness, intension in the spinal muscles. Painful sensations may be relatively short. Step by step, in individually indefinite period of time, pains are usually intensified and become longer. In dependence with a degree of involving into the process of nervous structures, phenomena of numbness may also appear. Numbness is more often present at the expressed changes of the intervertebral disc.

Treatment at the osteochondrosis

Painful sensations may be independently stopped, but it doesnt mean that pathology disappeared. Weak place in the spine wait for its turn. Osteochondrosis process continues developing. In the common comprehension of the osteochondrosis treatment, all the main influence is rendered on the place of suffering (more often lumbar-sacral segment). And it helps in some cases. But temporarily! It doesnt stop and doesnt eliminate osteochondrosis. Pathology is once again revealed in some period of time.

Complex of renewable measures is an effective direction in the treatment. The local impacts on the spine, as well as therapeutic influences on the internal environment of the whole organism, are necessary. The basis of the complex renewal should include:
